Pictures and Paint
Aubrey returned home Wednesday night. I met my parents at the Bass Pro Shops in Portage which is slightly over 1/2 way for the trade-off. I was super excited to see her.
After dinner, we came home with Aalyah in tow.
Aalyah, for the past 4 summers, has come out and spent a
week with us. We LOVE having her out here for such a long period of time. This year it turned out to be less than a week based on simple logistics and Aubrey being in IN for part of the time.
Although this year can't compare to the Harry Potter festivities of last summer, we still had tons of fun with her. We had some marathon games of Hide 'n Seek. I think every imaginable hiding spot on our first floor has been discovered.
While Aubrey was gone, Rudy and I were busy painting their bathroom as well as doing tons of playing with Benjamin!! It's a frog/fish theme. We bought the shower curtain years ago and have finally now taken the time to paint and stencil on some fish. The cool part about painting it was the accent colors of the stenciled fish from the shower curtain are the same colors we painted their bedroom last summer. Didn't even realize that until we started deciding on paint colors for the bathroom. Aubrey was very surprised. We aren't 100% finished with it though. We still need to replace the trim, vanity, and floor. We'll wait until the fall when there is less humidity for staining.
Also, since Aalyah is here and all the cousins are together, we took them to Picture People to get their pictures taken for Grandma & PopPop. We started this tradition last year. They all turned out fairly well. There is one above (isn't Benjamin's scrunched nose so cute!?!) and a link to the rest of the sitting.
Since Aalyah splits her time out here between myself and Aunt Milli, I knew that I needed to plan something different for Aubrey on Thursday since it would be her 1st day home after a very exciting and busy time with Grandma & PopPop. We took the train from the 5th Ave Train Station to Downers Grove for lunch at Two Toots with our friends Hannah and Mia.
She had tons of fun and despite the return train running behind, she still had a great time and slept really well!
Friday we went to Caputo's for some produce. Aubrey got to use the "little shopper" shopping cart through the store. She had a blast! It makes shopping with 2 so much easier. Then she had Gym & Swim and then it was more time with Aalyah! Aubrey can't get enough of being around her. It's really a lot of fun watching them play, as well as playing along with them.
Saturday Aalyah went back to Aunt Milli's before going home today. Aubrey was sad to see her go, wishing she was still here to spend.
Lastly, Saturday night we had hot dogs for dinner. Below is proof that deep down, Rudy really wants to eat a hot dog with ketchup...no matter what he says. I had to take a picture for proof. He did wipe it off his bun though!
For all you who he's given a hard time for putting ketchup on a hot dog (I'm one too)- keep this handy!
That's an awesome picture!! - John
