Turkey Day
It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving has come and gone!
We had a great day/weekend.
Thursday started by us bundling up the kids and heading downtown Naperville to run the Turkey Trot. Wow! There were SO MANY people running that race. It's was a bit crazy. I picked up my bib, disposable chip (much nicer than the ones you have to return), and goodie bag. We hung in the gym and ran into a few friends (pre and post race) which is hard to imagine since there were so many people crammed into such a small space.
Anyhow, about 5 minutes before race, we, along with our friend Bill and his 2 kids (Jenny was running in the front with the elite runners), made our way out to the start line. There was NO organization to the start so finally after 5 minutes of waiting we sort of just made our way into the pack.
UGH! It was quite challenging running a race with 2 jogging strollers and there being no organization. You had walkers with all the runners and people stopping right in front of you. I felt like I spent almost the entire race dodging and weaving through people. I love that it's a family race but it definitely needs to be organized A LOT better.
It was my first 5K race in years. Rudy and I both pushed 1 kid through the race. It was much harder for him to slow his pace to mine but we had a great time, a lot of fun, and my time was okay (30 minutes). I know it could have been better sans the jogger and better organized...not a 21 minute 5K like Rudy but still decent for me!
After the race we came home and watched the Macy's Day Parade, a tradition we both enjoyed as kids. Aubrey really enjoyed all the live theater production stops during the race.
While we enjoyed the Parade we began preparing the meal. Aubrey loves peeling the apples for the pie. She does a great job and is a wonderful help.
Turkey went in around 12:30 and came out around 4:30. We had PopPop, Mimi, Aunt Terri, Aunt Milli, Uncle David, and Zack over. It was a wonderful meal and great time hanging out with family.
Rudy got up at 4AM to brave the crowds for a couple Early Bird deals we simply couldn't pass up. Kohl's was the nuttiest and longest lines. Meijer he said was actually quiet. Brave Soul!
We were able to get the outside Christmas lights up on Friday as well. Very productive day.
Saturday we celebrated Benjamin's birthday--that gets its own special post!
We have much that we are thankful for this year.
