Holy Cow!
We are the proud owners of half a cow! This is what it looks like in our freezer.
Yep, we did it again. We bought 1/2 a cow from Yoder's Meat & Cheese Company in Shipshewana, IN. Well, we actually split one whole cow with our friends Carrie and John.
The great thing about this cow is that it was raised without hormones and antibiotics.
We've purchased 1/2 a cow before (splitting it with my parents) from Ancilla College. We chose to do Yoder's this time since my parents had lost contact with the Ancilla farmer. We were nervous not to use Ancilla since there is history there but we know that Yoder's also has quality meat and other products.
We had NY strip steaks tonight and they were so YUMMY! Delicious!
Anyhow, for our family, this is the best way to buy beef, not only from a cost perspective but most importantly from a quality perspective. We're grateful to have the space/sub freezer to actually do it.
Total, we received 286 lbs of beef which consists of ground beef (in 1 lb packages and also made into 1/4 lb patties), filet, NY Strip, sirloin, chuck roast, round steak, swiss steak, flank steak, rump roast, and a standing rib roast (which we are excited to make).
That's a lot of beef which will last us a long time.
Yummy!!! Moo... I love it that you can see how fresh it is with the blood leaking through on some of the packages. Thanks for the idea. - John
