Eight

Last weekend Rudy and I got to go into the city to celebrate our 8-yr anniversary. (Our actual anniversary was Tuesday the 20th and we celebrated that night by ordering Chinese.)
Actually, we started our celebration Friday night by going to the VIP opening of BlackFinn in Naperville. It started at 9PM so we had the babysitter come after the kids were already sleeping. However, once down there and we saw how extremely crowded it was (they were on a 1-in, 1-out system), so we got some Cookie Dough instead, ran a couple errands, and made it an early night.

Saturday we headed into the city around lunchtime. We were actually able to check into the hotel early (Marriott on Michigan Ave- Thanks Larsons!!). We had lunch at CPK then walked around for the day. We did some shopping along the Mag Mile then walked down to State street to do some more but were cut short due to the timing of our dinner reservations.

We headed back to the hotel, got ready, and took a cab over to Nacional 27 for dinner. We researched many places and decided to eat here. We were not disappointed. The ambiance was very sheik. The waitress was awesome. She gave a brief description of the menu then made some recommendations.
We started with Ceviches- an assortment of each of their offerings. This was something neither of us had every tried. They were good.
For dinner Rudy had a Ribeye with a mole sauce and sautéed squash. DELICIOUS!
I had 3 beef medallions each topped with something different- (blue cheese, truffles, and
chimichurri) and a spanish cheese potato gratin. DELICIOUS!
For dessert we had these great chimichangas with homemade chocolate ice cream.
Anything that came on ice had these fun LED lights in them so your drinks or appetizers were constantly changing colors. It was very cool! Hard to capture on camera :)

After dinner we took a cab back to Water Tower place and took a carriage ride along the lake front. It was a perfect night for a carriage ride- cool, crisp, clear!
As we came to the inner-drive and headed south, the fireworks finale over Navy Pier started--PERFECT! It was beautiful.

Sunday morning we were able to wake up and run together. We ran south toward Buckingham Fountain and the museums. It's always so fun to get to do that together. We don't often get the opportunity to do this together anymore so we take advantage of it every time we do. It was a great morning to run. We took the camera and just had some fun doing it. One guy thought we were tourists!

After we got back to the hotel and got ready for the day, we headed down for the awesome breakfast buffet at the Marriott. Then off to home we headed, of course after a quick stop to get some Garrett's popcorn for my parents!

It was a great weekend! We had so much fun.
We had some great discussions reflecting about this past year, reflecting on all our highs and lows. There, of course, were a lot. We both agreed that this past year brought a lot of growing opportunities in so many different areas of our lives, individually, in our marriage, and as a family. We are eager for this next year and all the growth and challenges it will bring.
Here's to another great year!

Congratulations, Amber!! Sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate your eight years :)

It always makes me amused when one of the guys who sells tickets to the top of the Empire State or the tour buses tries to sell me something. Not a tourist!!! :)
