Star of the Day
On Tuesday (St. Patrick's Day) Aubrey was the "Star of the Day" in her Preschool class. This meant that Rudy and I were able to accompany her to school and stay with her for the day.
As part of the day, she was to decorate a Gold Star however she wanted. Then on the back there was a small form with a few simple questions about her. The Star is also the snack bringer for the day. Our assigned snack was Sun Chips. We also brought Apple Sauce cups.
Here is a closer picture of how Aubrey decorated her Star:
-The top point of her star is a picture of her dressed as Belle from our trip to Disney World last year.
- Right point (when looking at it) is a sticker of Belle.
- Left point is a cross she got in Kid's City
- Bottom left point is a sticker of Snow White and a stair-step of glitter glue.
- Bottom right point is her sticker from dance class on Monday and a star cut-out of ballet dancers
-The rest: glitter "A" for Aubrey, glitter "B" for Benjamin, picture of Princess Fiona, Princess Leia, Darth Vadar, Luke Skywalker, Fancy Nancy, Beranstain Bears, Fruity Cheerios, Sticker of Ariel, Tinker Bell, some white ribbon, and a random pipe cleaner.
We had a lot of fun decorating it.

As the Star of the Day Aubrey was able to bring in a "Show and Share" Item. She chose to bring in our photo album from Disney. It was a lot of fun going through the photos with her class. They all listened so well!
As Star of the Day, she also got to lead the class in most all the daily tasks:
Calendar- Aubrey got to lead the class in the pattern and counting. They also learned a bit about St. Patrick's Day. Her teacher even noticed Aubrey's skirt were the colors of Ireland and she got to share it was actually from Ireland!
Clean-up- Got to ring the bell!
Snacks- Leads with hand washing then sitting down and pouring her own drink then passing it to the next person.
Going to Music class- Line leader to class, everyone lining up behind her on the blue line.
All the kids LOVE to ring the bell!
Line leader- Aubrey LOVES being the line leader. They have learned to do "hip and lip" to ensure they are quiet when transferring from their class to another part of the building.
Tuesdays is music day which meant we got to observe her class in their music lesson. Aubrey had so much fun in music. They were singing songs about snakes in honor of St. Patrick. They were learning rhythm- starting--stopping, beats. It was quite cool to watch.
When the kids got back from music, they all noticed a Leprechaun had been in their room and left them some gold coins and a small pot of gold (Corn Pops). They were super excited to find all their joins then take home their pots of gold. They at 1st thought we had done it but then realized that we were with them the whole time in music class. Then one student reminded them it was like the dinosaurs they just read about sneaking off the pages of their books and concluded it was the Leprechaun from the "Find the Leprechaun" game. They are so cute!
The curriculum at her school is great. We learned a lot more about that at our Parent Teacher Conferences at the end of Feb. It's great to see them exceeding the State's standards.
A fun element of the day is learning the the letter of the week, which is "D" as in dolphin and as Aubrey got to help define, as in "Dad".
She then got to help build a sentence with a "d- for dad". Rudy held his breath during this part. As we all know, this is an age when kids say exactly what they want. Kids share everything. Thankfully, her sentence was "My dad is spelled d-a-d."
It was a great day. Aubrey tolerated us being there. It was a lot of fun for me to see how different all the kids were from the last time I was in class with her which was October for the Halloween party. We've noticed huge growth changes in Aubrey but it was neat to see them in the entire class. It was also exciting to see how much they all have learned over the past few months. What could be chaos is really a peaceful environment because the kids have all learned and know how to implement key social and life skills like sharing, asking for help, problem solving, cleaning-up, listening, knowing when to talk- when not to talk, etc.
I have such admiration for her teacher and the school. They are a great class, very well behaved but I could not do what she does. God just didn't gift me in that way but I am very grateful He's gifted others!
Well, I can totally see her being a song and dance girl! She is fascinated with music and songs and of course dance!
